Camp Cloud Nine
Walk on clouds as they descend down from the sky and cover you up before you
even realize whats happened. Read a book by the trees at the edge of the
cliff, watch the sun go down over the whole of Doon valley or simply relax.
These are just a few of the things you can indulge in at Cloud End. Away
from the hustle and bustle of the mall, sounds of the traffic and side street
shops trying to sell novelties to you, is situated the hidden wonder of Mussoorie
township. 9 kms from the main town and 3 kms from the nearest civilization
stands this forest resort that is known to be more tranquil than most country
sides youve ever been to and more beautiful than you can ever imagine.
Built in 1838, the Cloud End forest resort is the only concrete structure
out of the first four built in the Mussoorie region that survives and that
too well preserved in more or less the same British Aura that it was acquired
in. The resort originally built as a summer getaway by the British now runs
through out the year but only to entertain a very niche segment of people
who come to spend some relaxed moments of peace and solitude in the company
of nature.
Spread over 400 acres, the resort has been well preserved in very much the
same ambiance as it was left in. Except for adding a few required amenities
not much has been constructed at the resort. The seven rooms that are available
at the resort are full of furniture and tit bits from that golden era and
sure to give you a feeling of staying in an ethnic British country home.
Cloud end is perhaps the only place that commands near complete view of the
Doon Valley, and at night on a clear day the Doon Valley with the lights shining
below is sure to remind you of the images of a fairy land you might have imagined
while reading a fairy tale. On a clear day, you can even see the snow covered
peaks like Chaukhamba, Yamunotri, Gangotri, Swargrohini and The Black Peak
just with in touching range.
No words can put on paper the feeling of being at this place in person. Hope
to see you soon at Cloud End.
